Some of you know my hobby of picture taking but don't realize that as I walk around a city, eat dinner with you, hang out with you I'm taking mental snapshots. It's these snapshots that I try to replicate in my photos and having the iPhone has been an instant way for me to capture what I'm taking in at a given time. I love the look of buildings against a crisp blue sky, the smile or smirk of my friend as they listen to me talk and think of something they want to say, the detail of a flower up close and yes at times the mental snapshot of the beer in front of me. I can't always say, "STOP! Let me take a picture!" I can however take pictures of my beers, and as you have seen I often do. I still send posts to What's Pouring and a semi-regular basis. It's hard since I don't want to ruin a moment with friends and pull the iPhone out and start writing about the beer in their presence. Only a select few understand and accept my craziness and obsession - and I thank them.
The picture above was taken Sunday night at a local bar here in Philadelphia. I was hanging with a friend from work and having some great conversation. We discussed moving, politics, the economy, work, and beer. It was low key, relaxed and fun. I took the above picture when my friend when to the restroom, and as I sat there alone and starred into my beer, I was taken in by the color of it with the candle lighting it up. So...I took a picture.
Someday I'll have to do a retrospective of all the beer pictures and create a montage or something. Maybe a fun art project for the brewery someday. Where customers can send in pictures of their Mellody Brewing beer and we'll post it on the website, and print it and hang it on the wall in the tasting room.
