Last night I attended what was the first, and I hope not the last Philadelphia Beer Advocate Meet up. I've written about these before in Tampa, so I won't go into great detail. Beer geeks unite, bring rare beer, drink and nerd it up. Add immense heat and humidity to that and that's what Tuesday was all about. Did I mention it was in the upstairs of an un air conditioned warehouse? It had to be close to 100 degrees - I started sweating as soon as I walked in, as did my cold bottles of beer. I meet some great people, drank some great beers, sweated my balls off and went home. I'm hoping this is the beginning of future meet ups and maybe some new friendships.
Beer geeks come in all shapes, sizes and sexes. I was happy to see some ladies present - that's rare in my experience. They were there with their significant others in most cases, and that's awesome. As for the men, well, we are a special breed of geek - that is for sure. The conversations hardly ever drifted from beer. Talking styles, favorites, bars, breweries, drinking stories, brewing stories...there were some guys I talked to all night and never got their name - we were too into the conversation. It's nice when like minded people can get together and enjoy something special - that at this meeting was beer and let me tell you some great beers at that. I can't list them all out but there was a vertical of Dark Lord (07-09), some Goose Islands, Cigar City, St. Somewhere, Reserva, Founders Breakfast and KBS, and well, lots more.
All in all - a good time was had by all - even if we were hot and sweaty - the beers where too.
Glad to see you're updating the blog more frequently these days! BTW, Bad Apple is in Lincoln Square, not Park, you had me all excited for a moment.
