This song has been in my head all week since I heard it on the radio while driving home Sunday afternoon. I love this song for many reasons: 1. When I hear it, my first vision is of a friend of mine in college running in slow motion to this song one night while we were out. EVERY time I hear this song, I think of her; 2. The lyrics really stuck me this time around - I downloaded it and listened to it a few times and maybe it's that I see the singer striving for something, something he can't get; 3. It's a kick ass song to drive to and to get you pumped up to go to work in the morning. I've listened to it every morning this week.
This song has no hidden meaning or anything as we look to continue the Hootenanny this week. I just love it. It's a fun song, despites its words, and I think this would make a great bar sing along song - that is if people actually knew it.
Maybe there is an underlying meaning, as I'm off today for a four day weekend and yes, it's good to be free. Also, this week I started (again) moving towards making the dream a reality after a little hiatus of sorts. So, work and I are kinda breaking up, and yes it'll be good to be free.

Today marks the 75th Anniversary of the end to Prohibition. Now traditionally the 75th wedding anniversary is not anything special, since most marriages I guess don't really get that far...sad. But like the diamond, gold or paper years the 70th is platinum according to wikipedia. So what is the 75th? Anyway, I digress. I am excited to have never had to experience the dry life, except those weird days during Senior Week when we were in a "Dry" country in NJ. I guess at the University of Scranton too, which was/is a "Dry" campus, achem...yeah...right?!
This is the only ammendment to the Constitution to be repealed, yet there still remains some archeic laws around alcohol in various states. Like Sunday sales being prohibited, or the sales of only cases of beer in Pennslyvania, or lower alcohol amounts in Utah. It's a interesting legacy of the church vs. state relationship if you ask me. I mean, can you really say those laws and prohibition didn't have a religious aspect to it, even if only underlying.
Anyways, raise a pint tonight, crack a Bud, pour a wine cooler, share some wine and of course DO SOME SHOTS!!! It's your right and thankfully we live in a society where you're free to drink as much or as little as you please. I, sir - thank you and will have another.
In honor of this historic anniversary, we bring back the Hootenanny as well.
mhmmm...Calexico for this weeks Hootenanny personifies how I'm feeling today after what was a neverending week. Pick a line, any line...run with it. My favorite or most identified, "out of time, must decide to fall or run."
So, you're wondering - wtf? Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney, dude what's wrong with you today? Well, as a few of the hometown readers know I was quite the MJ fan back in the day. I had parachute pants and the Thriller LP. I also used to do the moonwalk in the boys room in elementry school (the tiles in there made it easier.) I can still do it, but only with some liquid encouragement.
I always enjoyed this song, and oh the days when MJ didn't look or act crazy (in public.) I was just wanting to remember those days today. Can I get an amen, people?!
This song has been in my head all day. No idea why. I can't escape it. Happy Friday Hootenanny. Look for updates after the BA Throwdown tomorrow! I'm sure there will be lots to discuss.
In just over a month I'll be headed to Austin City Limits to see one of my favorite artists perform live. Neko Case is a mix of true artist, incredible song writer and kick ass voice. I also thinks she's pretty hot. I plan on getting a spot right up front and making eye contact with her in hopes we have a moment and she invites me back stage. Enjoy today's Hootenanny. I'm sorry for being MIA on here as of late. The day job beckons and has been very, very busy. Also, lots of thinking to do regarding career, living situation, etc. I'll update you cryptically in a later post but let's just say it's been a roller coaster few weeks. I plan on drinking a few good beers, talking to some friends and enjoying a nice long weekend with Barley. Maybe some clarity will come to me during it all. We shall see.
I love to sing along after a few beers. This is a song that I'd always ask Jackie at World of Beer to play for me after a few drinks. If it was loud in the bar, I'd sing my buzzed head off. I'm a good time damit! So, feel free to turn up the volume and scratch your air turntable and sing along. I take Ad Rock's lines, so pick who you want, Mike D or MCA.
