Here Pliny...here boy...

Word on the street is Pliny the Younger is hitting bars in Philadelphia over the next few weeks.  This is a pized find for beer geeks, as it is only released once a year, and in sixtels only.  That means, limited supply and kegs that kick fast.  I'm not going to go and list all the places and events tied to getting some Pliny, a quick google search will help you find it.  My issue today is figuring out when and where I can get me some.

Pliny the Younger by the way is the last beer on my Top Nine in 09 list, so while it maybe 2010, I'll have now had all the top ten beers I listed from last year after I get me some.

Top Nine in 09

Here's my list of the Top Nine Beer moments in 2009.

1. I have now drank nine of the Top Ten rated beers according to BeerAdvocate.
2. Volunteered at Philly Craft Beer Festival, meet brewers, walked home with bottles and contacts.
3. Shared beers with Bob from St. Somewhere and Patrick from The Bruery during Craft Beer Week.  I still have Patrick's card on my chalk board, it may yet come in handy.
4. Back to homebrewing (even if partially extract) - two batches in two months - one tapped - one ready to go.  It feels good.
5. My brother sent me beers from Chicago for Christmas, including: Goose Island Matilda, Bourbon County Stout and New Glarus Wisconsin Belgian Red. He even drove to Wisconsin to get me the bottles of New Glarus - I've clearly made an impact on him.  Best gift this year, by far.
6. Philly BA Meetup - it was hotter than Tampa, and we drank in the cooler to fight of total dehydration.  
7. Hit almost every major new beer bar (Gastro Pub) that opened while I lived in Tampa.  I'm overwhelmed by my options now that I'm back.
8. Shared bottles of St. Somewhere with friends and family that I bottled while in Tampa.  
9. Buying bottles at Capone's before Thanksgiving, and sharing lots of good beers with the family through out the day.

Mellody Brewing Top 20 List

Over the last year or so I've had the opportunity to have some of the best rated beers of the world.  This is based on ratings from either Beer Advocate or Rate Beer.  I've written about the lists before and my feelings on rankings.  That's why I feel it's time for a real list...my list.  Now. This means I need to sample each of the top 10 beers on each sites list.  I will then re-rank them.  So, we're going to be keeping the top 20 list in order by BA Top Ten then Rate Beer Top Ten on the side bar.  The goal is to try them all in the next year.  We'll be on the hunt for the beers from here on out.  Looks for reviews on What's Pouring and stories here about the hunt as well.  Once we get them all, we'll begin ranking.

This shall be fun.  If you disagree with the list, let me know...maybe we'll have to add a readers Top 10 and make the list from that.
